Weekly News — 28 June 2026

I write this note after a morning spent in the relative cool of the church space with Memory Cafe.  Guests braving the heat to get there, the atmosphere was relaxed and easy.

Our Memory Cafe embodies that gospel imperative we will hear about this Sunday: “whoever welcomes you welcomes me, and whoever welcomes me welcomes the one who sent me” (Matthew 10.40).  Our offerings are made through the strength of Christ and are practical care in his name.

Being a physical presence in our community, St Barnabas holds a special place in the lives and memories of many, including those who are not worshippers themselves.  I encountered this in the conversations I had at the Brentham Strawberry Tea this week.

A large part of this is our building and its many adaptable uses - and animated by those of us who minister in all senses of the word in and around it.

Without peer, Nick is one such link person with our community. Held in deep affection and gratitude by international recording artists and locals alike, Nick keeps so much of our show on the road. He is the daily custodian of our buildings and outward life. Anyone shifting staging and chairs will have met him!

On Sunday 5 July, Nick marks both his 70th birthday and 40 years of service at St Barnabas. We might like to think of where we each were in that year, 1986!

We have a Bring and Share lunch party in his honour straight after the 10.30 Mass on Sun 5 July.  Please contact Sue Proud with the food item you will Bring, or for guidance - and then bring yourselves!  I look forward to seeing you then.

Pitshanger Pictures - Ealing Cinema Night

“The Blue Lamp” (84 mins) was a trend-setting police procedural the likes of which we are all very familiar with today. It introduced Dixon of Dock Green (Jack Warner) the character who went on to appear weekly in many of our homes from 1955 to 1976, 22 series. A particularly clever feat as in the film Dixon is killed in the first half hour or so!

The second film is “No Limit” (70 mins). This film stars George Formby and was made in 1936 by Associated Talking Pictures, the parent company of Ealing Studios. He plays the part of a chimney sweep aspiring to become a TT Motorcycle racer on the Isle of Man. It’s a comedy. The film is also shown every year at the TT races!

Donations for Food Pantry

Please consider donating items from the list in church. Donations may be left after church on Sundays or during Food Pantry hours on Wednesdays. If you would like to give a monetary donation specifically to the food pantry, please mark your green envelope ‘Food Pantry’, or use this link.

Small amounts of fresh produce can be accepted ONLY when the Pantry is open on Wednesdays.
