Who's who

St Barnabas is led through a collaboration between ordained and lay leaders. We are very blessed with a gifted and diverse clergy and congregation who offer their skills to the mission and ministry of the church.

Mother Sarah Howard-Jones

Vicar

Thank you for visiting our website - you are most welcome here and do get in touch to find out more.  I am delighted to have been vicar of St Barnabas Ealing since June 2024, and have loved getting to know the area and its people. If you and I haven't met yet, please do be in touch with me; I will be pleased to meet you.

I live in the vicarage close to the church in Pitshanger with Julian, my two teenagers and our cat Minou.

As an orchestral violinist I am pleased to play with one of the Ealing ensembles, so many of whom are regularly part of the vibrant musical life of St Barnabas we rejoice in.  I enjoy getting out and sharing in your events of all kinds in our locality, whether they be of any faith or none, believing in the restorative gifts of community and social interaction.  Drop me an email to let me know.

I was born and brought up in the borough of Ealing, attending Notting Hill & Ealing High School until I was 18. I then did a bi-lingual course at the Institut Francais in London and worked as an interpreter/PA. I married Stephen in 1967 we moved back to Ealing in 1977 with our 2 daughters. I had twin boys in 1980.

I began training for the priesthood in 2001 at STETS, a theological college in Salisbury. After ordination in 2004 I served my curacy at St Mary with St Nicholas in Perivale, London. I remained there as Assistant Priest until taking over as vicar in 2014. I retired in 2017 and am now an Associate Priest here at St Barnabas Church. During this time, I have also worked in Conflict Resolution, Bereavement and Pastoral Care training and also spent 3 years as a prison chaplain.

My husband, Paul, and I have recently moved to the UK from Johannesburg, South Africa. We have three daughters living in and around London and a son in Melbourne. We decided to make the move to be closer to our 5 grandchildren here as they grow up.

For the last 10 years I have been at St Mary’s Junior School for girls in Waverley where I facilitated Divinity lessons across the primary school and supported the school chaplain with confirmation classes and weekly Chapel services for the staff and students. I've always had a twin vocation to minister and teach.

I look forward to being with you at St Barnabas and thank you for your welcoming presence.
