Weekly News — 11 October 2026
Warm greetings to you all,
It is wonderful (if a little chilly) to return from my honeymoon and already to have seen so many of you. Despite the many things you have looked after in the past weeks, your kindnesses in asking after Julian and me is very generous - thank you. Thanks also for a super collective celebration of our marriage on 19 September. I hope in time to share a few images of that day; the church as a building looked glorious, but the church as its people even more so. I have a strong sense that we were all held in something bigger than the sum of parts, and the sacrament of marriage (which I think even as Anglicans we may be permitted to embrace!) wraps around the two of us. Sri Lanka proved an expansive addition to this - a land of lakes, festivals, and shaped by faith. We were welcomed warmly wherever we went, and enjoyed hospitality of the overflowing kind!
Within parish, keep an eye out below for our two forthcoming services: Noisy Mass Collab and our Pet Service.
Until I next see you, with prayers and blessings,
Sarah
This Sunday: 10:30: join us for something completely new!
We are bringing a specially adapted Godly Play story into our main service as an all-age, intergenerational collaboration together with Noisy Mass.
We need the help of our young people to help ‘tell’ the living story from the gospels. All instructions will be given. Let me know if you can take part!
Bring the whole family. We look forward to sharing this journey of discovery with you.
Mother Jeanny
NEXT SATURDAY!
Saturday 17 Oct - 2pm
Spread the word that we have our annual Pet Service for all pet owners, and for their pets.
A short and informal service of thanks for our pets and their lives and support to us.
Bring any pet who may enjoy the time - the more the merrier - no noise unacceptable! Or bring a photo of a much missed pet.
All will be blessed and sent out in the love of their Creator.
All Souls’ List 2026
All Souls’ Day is a time for commemoration of the faithful departed. As in previous years, we will be reading the names of your loved ones during the evening service.
This will be on Sunday 1st November at 6pm, when we will be singing the Faure Requiem. The list of names will be displayed in church from Friday 9th October and will close on 26th October.
If you would like names of any loved ones to be added or removed from the list, please mark on the displayed sheet(s) alphabetically, or email felicity@hughmather.uk.
Thank you
Would you - or someone you know - value a safe supportive space to navigate loss and grief?
Feel very welcome to chat to Mthr Jeanny to find out more beforehand.
Monthly on Wednesdays: 2-3pm.
We can of course feel a bit anxious or uncertain about these things - that’s very understandable - come and give it a try and be sure of a warm and supportive welcome. Light refreshments available.
It is effortless to donate money to St Barnabas! In fact, it is free!
By a quick download of the right gadget, each time you shop online most large retailers will send money our way.
A free advert for Uniqlo here, and a snapshot of Mthr Sarah’s online shopping…
Some of you will be doing this for schools, groups, and clubs. If so - ok! But if you’re not elsewhere, then please sign up. Sarah has raised £120 in the last 18 months ;)
