Weekly News — 8 November 2026

Warm greetings to you all,

Catching the last of the golden leaves of late autumn, we are now decidedly turning the corner in our seasons. Last Sunday we marked All Souls, welcoming more than 100 people into a space of reflection and remembering at our requiem mass - and this Sunday we will observe Remembrance Sunday.

All whilst stepping around Christmas decorations in shops and - if we are the lucky hosts - filling the online food shopping baskets for Christmas guests.

It is a “now and not yet” situation!

We walk this path together, and however you find this time of year, you are warmly invited to find what feels right for you here at St Barnabas. Our website shows all that is on offer - both our events and services and the concerts of the local ensembles that we are hosting.

In this “pre-Advent” season of enhanced reflection, the ministry team have been compiling our Advent enrichment - do take a look below to see what is happening - and details of how to join in will follow shortly.

Our new series of monthly Saturday short services is underway - the next is on 21 Nov at 12 - see below.

It is not Christmas yet! Remembering and Advent beckon you first..!

Until I next see you, with prayers and blessings,

Sarah

Seeking our new Noisy Mass leader!

We have gone out to advert to seek a new leader for Noisy Mass - you can read the details here. Share the word - and most importantly, pray for the right person to join us. Applications close on 23 November and interviews are the following week.

The advert is also on our website on this link.

As we prepare to say farewell to Mother Jenny on 13 December we are organising a farewell gift for her from the whole parish.

A card will find its way around in due course, but meanwhile if you would like to contribute to her gift you can do so here.

St Pauls Cathedral prays for St Barnabas Ealing On Thursday 12 November in the Cathedral cycle of prayer, the Cathedral keeps our parish in each set of intercessions throughout the day. We received an invitation to Choral Evensong at 5-5.45pm, with seats in the Quire and a personal welcome; if you would like to join Mthr Sarah at this, please email Mother Sarah asap.

Do you hold a personal licence for a licensed premises selling alcohol?

If so, the PCC wold love to hear from you - please contact parish.office@barnabites.net

Would you - or someone you know - value a safe supportive space to navigate loss and grief?

Feel very welcome to chat to Mthr Jeanny to find out more beforehand.

Monthly on Wednesdays: 2-3pm. Next date 2 December.

We can of course feel a bit anxious or uncertain about these things - that’s very understandable - come and give it a try and be sure of a warm and supportive welcome. Light refreshments available.

Stephen Aitken has remarkably reached a 20 minute plank this month in aid of Cancer Research. He was persuaded to show us a few minutes of this at Memory Cafe this week (pictured!). As many of us will know, this is quite something! If you’d like to add to his fundraiser you can do so here:

Barnabas joins the Shelter. 2027 marks the return of the wonderful Barnabas hall hosting of the Ealing Churches Winter Night Shelter. Thanks to Jean Norman and the team who are already on board. We are seeking more team members - the more the merrier and also the more choice of when you can help. We will host on Sunday evenings and overnight, ending with an early breakfast - lots of shifts within this! Talk to Jean (her photo is on the PCC board in church), email the office, or to any of Ministry Team and we will put you in touch.

Remembrance Sunday

On Sunday 8 November we will mark Remembrance Sunday in our 10.30 Sung Mass. Please join the service as usual. The choir and congregation will process outside after the reading of the Gospel for the Act of Remembrance at the war memorial.

Please stay seated if that works better for you, and the liturgy will be marked simply indoors.

Pitshanger Pictures - next Opera showing: A Masked Ball - Verdi.

DELVING DEEPER

This new corner of the newsletter is carved out for ideas to help you delve deeper in faith, feel God’s presence in your day, and to encourage us all to explore!

Can Advent feel new for you this year?

Keep your eye out for news here shortly about our parish Advent offerings.  These will come in three formats - you can follow one or all three! We will include in-person reflections on Wednesdays 12.30; an enlightening spiritual vlog for both personal reflection and a supper discussion later in January; and the return of the Virtual Advent Calendar in your pocket!

Find a quiet 5 minutes this week to ask yourself: what do I really need for myself this Advent?

NEW Saturday short services at noon

We launched with our Pet Service in October a new series of services aimed at the wider community and those who wish to experience helpful and accessible worship for 30-40 minutes on a Saturday. They will be led by both lay and ordained people.

The next of the services marks National Tree Week and is on Sat 21 Nov, at 12 midday. All are welcome as we give thanks and pray for our natural world. Mother Jenny leads this service.

Advent Carol Service - St Pauls Cathedral - Sat 28 Nov, 5pm

In previous years, St Paul’s has been able to welcome hundreds of congregation from across our Diocese and it has been wonderful to see the Cathedral so full and to welcome so many parishes.

St Paul’s hopes you will be able to join this year for this moving and uplifting service in which the Cathedral Choir moves throughout the building singing music which reflects the Advent themes of light and hope, together with readings from scripture and literature, and some of the best-loved of the Advent hymns.

To apply for tickets and register young people for the procession, please fill out the form linked here Advent Service - Guest Spreadsheet with the names, email addresses, access needs and number of tickets required for each individual or family group and then return it by email to events@stpaulscathedral.org.uk

(To edit the document please go to File, Export, Export at CSV and the spreadsheet will download to your computer. You may add as many lines as you need.)

If a group from St Barnabas wishes to go together that is fabulous!
