Weekly News — 10 May 2026

As the month of May wends its way, and Pitshanger folk turn their thoughts to May Day and - at St Barnabas - the coming feasts of Ascension and Pentecost, there is a definite smell of spring in the air.

Eastertide proves to us that it is as long as Lent (longer, indeed) and the Gospel of John weaves the poetry and teaching of Jesus with the relationship we are all called to in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. As our Lady Chapel reredos proclaims, “I am with you always” - so also Jesus assures us in the gospel this Sunday “I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate, to be with you for ever. This is the Spirit of truth”.  It is all relationship.

The world seeks all over, yet what it yearns for is there all along.

We welcome the Revd Jeanny Wang in mid May onwards in her 3rd year of curacy. We will be delighted to have Jeanny with us for just under a year, and are excited to be encouraged in new ways in our faith through her gifts. Jeanny has in particular a passion for enabling children’s spirituality through Godly Play, which will be a blessing to revive at St Barnabas.

Celebrate Ascension Day with vicarage garden sparkling drinks, and Mass for 30 mins beforehand.

Thursday 14 May, mass at 7pm in the church, drinks follow straight after at 7.30.

Please note, this will be drinks only, so do eat before you set out!

Garden Team - and No Mow May and the Nature Count

This year is from Saturday 6 June when we will survey plants, insects and birds in the church grounds. Last year we had 10 volunteers so we would like more as it makes it easier to have more help. gardenteam@barnabites.net

Ascension Day - 7pm Thursday 14 May - a short (30mins) Said Mass, with a hymn, followed by drinks in the Vicarage garden. All are welcome

Newcomers Vicarage garden party - Saturday 20 June, 2-5pm.  All those who are new in the past year, or missed last year, or are not so new but feel it - WELCOME!

Donations for Food Pantry

Please consider donating items from the list in church. Donations may be left after church on Sundays or during Food Pantry hours on Wednesdays. If you would like to give a monetary donation specifically to the food pantry, please mark your green envelope ‘Food Pantry’, or use this link.

Small amounts of fresh produce can be accepted ONLY when the Pantry is open on Wednesdays.
