St Barnabas and COVID19

"The Lord is my shepherd;

   therefore can I lack nothing.

He makes me lie down in green pastures

and leads me beside still waters.

He shall refresh my soul"

UPDATE 17 March 2020:

A letter from Fr. Justin Dodd - Vicar, 17 March 2020

Dear Friends,

Following guidance from both the UK Government and the Archbishops of Canterbury and York, I am suspending all public worship at St Barnabas for the foreseeable future.

This is a time of anxiety and uncertainty. However, we are a strong, creative and generous church community. God is with us. Despite the current restrictions on worship, we can still work together to support each other and the most vulnerable. I am very moved by the number of parishioners who have already stepped forward to offer help.

Here are a few of the ways the church is organising to stay united in prayer and to meet the needs of neighbours:

1) We are investigating how the 10:30am High Mass can be offered by a skeleton team and live-streamed on the internet. More details to follow.

2) A list of parishioners who would like phone check-ins or who may need practical help (e.g. shopping) is being compiled. Please let us know if you would like to come onto this list or alternatively can volunteer support (phone calls, shopping etc...).

3) Consider sharing your telephone number with other members of the congregation in order to keep in contact. Some people are dropping postcards through neighbour's doors offering help if it is needed.

The charity Mind has put together some very helpful information for those who are unwell, self-isolating, or - and this will apply to almost everyone - those who are simply worried.

I encourage you to build prayer into the routine of your day. For example, you may like to pray the "Prayer for the Outbreak" below on a daily basis or sign up for the Church of England's online Lent resource #LiveLent here.

Finally, remember that I am here together with the rest of the Ministry Team. We will be praying for everyone and available by phone or email. Don't be alone and held captive to fear. If you need a phone call let us know. The Lord is here. His Spirit is with us!

With every blessing,

Fr. Justin Dodd

Vicar

Lord Jesus Christ, you taught us to love our neighbour, and to care for those in need as if we were caring for you. In this time of anxiety, give us strength to comfort the fearful, to tend the sick, and to assure the isolated of our love, and your love, for your name's sake. Amen.
