Volunteer Mentors Needed: Plias Resettlement

Plias Resettlement is looking to recruit volunteer mentors for their young people. They are a charity that supports offenders’ rehabilitation.


Mentors will possess the following: 

Characteristics

Reliable, Committed, Flexible, Respectful, Empathic, Sense of Humour, Patient, Open, Sensitive, Non-judgmental, Self-aware, Tactful

Knowledge

Life Experience, Issues facing Ex-offenders, Young people, CJS Procedures, Boundaries and Limitations, Local knowledge

Skills

Active Listening, Interpersonal Engagement, Time Keeping, Problem Solving, Motivating, Communication Skills, Reflective, Self-learner, Leadership


The volunteering commitment will include the following:

  • A minimum 6-month commitment
  • 2 hours a week (face to face, telephone or online, subject to agreement) including 1 hour of mentoring and 1 hour to write up notes and carry out any research to support the mentoring sessions
  • A basic DBS check will be carried out
  • Mentor training will be provided
  • Optional further training available
