Hugh Mather studied the piano and organ from an early age, gaining the FRCO and the ARCM piano performers diplomas. He then pursued a medical career and was Consultant Physician at Ealing Hospital from 1982 to 2006, before retiring to pursue his musical interests. He has continued his piano studies with James Gibb for many years, and given many concerts as soloist, accompanist and chamber musician. He has performed concerti by Mozart, Beethoven, Brahms, Mendelssohn, Chopin, Gershwin, Grieg, and Schumann, with various orchestras including the West London, Essex and the West Country. He organised weekly lunchtime concerts at Ealing Hospital for 20 years, to provide local musicians with valuable performing experience, and now runs a similar series of concerts on Friday lunchtimes at St Barnabas. He is also Chairman of the Friends of St Mary's Perivale, and organises around 45 concerts per year there, as well as over 50 at St Barnabas.
